April 3, 2020Beyond Ideas
April 27, 2020Divine Love is now flooding the Earth. It seems like the less we can move on the outside, the more life moves us on the inside. Joy is not in things, it is in us.
The coronavirus has forced us to withdraw from our usual gatherings and activities out in the world. Yet, the more confined we are by the walls of our homes, cities, or countries, the freer we are to meet ourselves in that field that is “beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing” (Rumi) and perhaps “lie down in that grass” for a while. The more locked down we are physically, the more freely our souls reach for the creative freedom that we’re usually too busy or distracted to claim, in our otherwise hectic and saturated everydays.
It’s not what we do, it’s how we are as we do it.
Summing up our collective and individual truths, the way many of us have been living our daily lives is untenable, despite our sacred goals, inspirations, and vision. We are faced with the issue of trying to source our energy and power from our wells and reserves which are dry and empty, with nothing left to give. This way of life has not been sustainable. It’s not what we do, it’s how we are as we do it. And how we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives. The problem is not that we have problems. The problem is expecting otherwise and thinking that having problems is a problem. We need to understand that rest does not come from sleeping but from waking.
Worry is not preparation. It gives small things a big shadow.
oday notice the solutions rather than the problems. Worry is not preparation. It gives small things a big shadow. The life that had been edited out of living is coming back to meet us between the lines and in the spaces. We all deal with love and loss, each in our own ways. We learn to meet grief and loss, and navigate through emotions such as anxiety and loneliness with an open heart, and through service. By plugging into a source of power much vaster than ourselves, we discover how to release feelings of scarcity, shame, lack, and/or isolation and trust the vast reservoir of creativity, healing, possibility, and power.
For many of us, the loss of our usual ways of bonding with others has also been about dealing with the escalation of conflict and tension in our relationships, feeling overstretched, straddling the practical demands of our daily responsibilities, which have been compounded by a loss of income. Despite the hope that JobKeeper and JobSeeker program announcements seemed to bring, the economic front is devastating for many. We see the trigger into old patterns and limiting beliefs supported by huge numbers of redundancies, and the massive queues at Centrelink.
This is a time of rest and for recharging. Guilt-free.
Yet, we also aware of the growth in compassion for the imperfections in ourselves and others. We forgive ourselves for the mistakes we have made, release judgments about ourselves and others in ways that open our hearts to more generous and compassionate perspectives enabling us to shift dynamics and engage in new creativity. We remind ourselves that it is for the greater good, as we physically move away from each other and our congested and busy work life. This is a time of rest and for recharging. Guilt-free.
As contagion rates and deaths started to increase, people have been in a high degree of shock and fear, feeling drained by the suffering in the world and the uncertainty about their future. Yet, we are learning about creating the space to be with the things in life in a new way, one that enables challenges, resilience, and empowerment. Over Easter, it would appear that there has been an acceptance about this life we will have for some time to come, “the new normal”.
What is for certain is the pain, fear, and the real needs of many neighbours, friends, and certainly all of those who are at the front lines of this pandemic.
Stay centered, no matter what happens.
Stay centered, no matter what happens. Adversity borrows its sharpest sting from our impatience, panic, and anxiety. Needless to say, equanimity is one of the most crucial skills to cultivate as we all learn to navigate this volatile and disruptive time. Meeting each moment with equanimity means being rooted in a depth that is unaffected by the ups and downs of life, and not being whipped from side to side by the volatility of what’s happening in the world.
One thing that *hasn’t *been lost, though, and that can never be lost, is our deepest connection with the ‘all’.
We turn to God for help when our foundations are shaking, only to learn that it is God who is shaking them.
Everyone’s spiritual path is unique. Along the way, through our many lives, we naturally gravitate towards what suits our level of evolution, our cultural background, and our temperament. The purpose of prayer is not to ask for a specific, particular or certain thing, but to open up our Consciousness so that we may be able to comprehend and be creative with the formless energy that is all about us. We turn to God for help when our foundations are shaking, only to learn that it is God who is shaking them. Whether you name it God, Spirit, the Universe, or something else, the force that binds us in Love and Oneness is calling us now to pay attention. What has been shaking you that you might be ready to see as a spiritual opportunity? As we do we are opened up all the intangible qualities we need right now: compassion, confidence, courage, and much more.
We do what we do not because it’s easy, but because the world needs what we offer; not because we always love the process, but because the process helps us love life; not because we feel worthy, but because turning lives into hearts makes it all worth it. Our vision and voice are all we really have.
Not a day passes when we don’t think about you and hope you are all keeping safe and well during these uncertain times.
The best things in life are priceless, and the best strategies in life are simple.
We ask ourselves and each other how each of us can be of the best benefit at a time when our societies are shutting down and experiencing unprecedented stress. I know our teachers and therapists are looking forward to welcoming their loyal students and clients, and helping you feel even better than before. Being old school and of the belief that the best things in life are priceless, and that the best strategies in life are simple: simple to understand, apply, teach, and share with others.
A big thank you to all of our frontline and academic team. Enjoy a free retreat on us, valid for when we are open.
It is crucial that we do our best to take care of each other, and our community. Everybody you meet is fighting their own hard battle. Notice their eyes, their body language, and the set of their mouth. Be kind.
Always be a little kinder than necessary. And be a whole lot kinder to yourself than you had imagined was possible. Today (every day), notice kindness wherever you encounter it.
