If you can breathe you can practice Yoga. Yoga presents a method of health care and relaxation suitable for everyone. There’s no age barrier in Shanti Yoga, it is for the child, the parent, the elder. The gentle movements can be done in a small space with no special equipment and in comfortable clothing. Once you’ve learnt how to exercise and relax it takes a short time to go through your practices to achieve calmness and balance in your life.
Our multi-level classes are suitable for all ages, shapes and sizes. Shanti Yoga is a wholistic approach which incorporates breathing, stretching and relaxation which in turn enables you to feel balanced and energised rather than exhausted after a class.
You are taught to use the length of the muscle and the awareness of stability in the joints within each pose or exercise. These progress from a preparation stage to increased load and effort, so that each person has the option to suit their body for how strongly they want to work. When a particular pose does not suit an individual, they are given an alternative. In each class, the student is encouraged and inspired to apply the philosophical basis of Yoga so that they don't force their bodies, but work with awareness and breath so that their practice is satisfying and safe.
