Yoga has many tools. Chanting is extremely effective. Sound is the basis from which the entire creation, including our own constitution is evolved. Chanting helps us cross over the mind barrier, and enter into a deeper realm of healing and truth. The sound of the human voice, raised to praise and honour all forms of the Divine, has been used as a tool for healing and awakening for millennia, and holds a place in spiritual traditions across the world.
In India, the ancient saints, sages and rishis heard specific sounds, or mantras, in the depths of their meditations. A mantra is a declaration of something true. Intoned and sung phrases of sacred texts, unique to each tradition in language, form and melodic structure has found its way into the global music genre.
As soon as we recognise the Vedic theory (now supported by the more modern quantum physics) that energy and sound healing is obviously not just possible, but could be infinitely more effective than other more physical methods the paradigm of solid matter pales into insignificance.
Everything is made up of tiny, sub-atomic particles of energy, and this vibrational frequency will be able to change anything that it impacts. These "sonic pharmaceuticals" have been passed down for generations for us to use. Sound, light, and energy vibrations that are at the right frequency to enter the furthest reaches of the cellular structure, can affect change at that most subtle level. DNA can change. A liver can heal. When appropriate frequencies are applied, the energy of the entire organism can shift, almost immediately. We are only now beginning to recognise the effectiveness and importance of all of these energetic approaches. With an open mind and further application, it will be easy to recognise this arena as the health recovery and maintenance system of the future.
Chanting workshops on Wednesday nights stroke the internal flames, nourish the body, transcend the mind, and help us connect fully and deeply to our higher selves. The pure tones of Sanskrit chants vibrate the body at a cellular level, which in turn can improve your circulation, metabolism, endocrine system, chakras and align your heart to channel the infinite love, kindness, compassion and abundance that is all around you. These sacred sounds that have been chanted for millennia, awaken the spiritual heart of healing from within, and have the power to bring you into harmony and out of a state of disease. Through call and response chanting (kirtan), stories, and meditation, we practice transmuting negative emotions, open the heart, and still the mind. No singing, chanting or yoga experience necessary and all are welcome.
In meditation the mantra arises from the silence and returns to the silence.
In deep meditation the mind follows the mantra into the silence.
In the silence you are introduced to the fullness and bliss of your eternal Self.
“Revelation follows ecstasy; all knowledge that a book can never contain and that a language can never express, nor a teacher teach come to a person of itself [through music]” – Hazrat Inayat Khan
